IDEG Award Recipients
PETER BENNETT AWARD
This award honors Dr. Peter Bennett’s many contributions to the epidemiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications arising from his greater than 50-year experience working among the Pima Indians of Southern Arizona. It is given in recognition of a major and longstanding contribution to the field of diabetes epidemiology.
HARRY KEEN MEMORIAL AWARD
This award recognizes Professor Harry Keen’s many contributions to both diabetes clinical and epidemiologic research. His long career at Guy’s Hospital in London is marked by the Bedford Survey and the first international study on macrovascular disease in diabetes. Other of his significant accomplishments includes origination of the concepts of microalbuminuria and IGT, and development of the first pump for continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion.
